What is a cigarette filter?
Cigarette filters are made of cellulose acetate, a type of plastic that does not biodegrade under typical conditions. When discarded, they break down into smaller pieces rather than decomposing, contributing to plastic pollution. Filters can be found in various states of degradation—some fully intact, while others resemble cotton-like fibers buried under debris.
